I thought I would ask a question that ties in to the upcoming men’s retreat…
How have you seen the men in your life lead well? If you are married, please answer with your HUSBAND in mind.

The way I have seen my husband lead is with his patience for me, although it is sometimes hard to be patient with my ever-changing emotions, he constantly takes time to hear me (even the ridiculous stuff)! He listens to what I have to say and joins me in my pain and/or joy all the while still challenging me to press in to what I believe about God. He has grown so much in his ability to just listen and not try to solve and fix all that is broken in the world around me or even in my heart, but rather he meets me in a place of truth and loves me the entire time, and if I am honest, I don’t always give him reason too!
How my husband has been able to lead so well in response to my ‘strong willed’ nature, I’ll never know. It is truly living proof that the power of the Holy Spirit resides! My hubby is one who is calm and even-keeled and an excellent diffuser of the negative that can creep into conversations. When things become ‘tense’ between the two of us, he is consistently so quick to say “Hey, can we pray about this together?”. I praise Jesus that Jeff has such a heart for leading as Christ leads the church. I am also so thankful for the beautiful example it models for our children. I’m in no way proclaiming my husband as perfect – simply as one who seeks the Lord’s will and is patient to listen for that ‘still, small Voice.’
EVER SINCE I FIRST ATTENDED GRACE CHAPEL I HAVE SEEN AND FELT THE GREAT LEADERSHIP OF GOD’S MEN THERE. IT IS WONDERFUL TO KNOW THEY LIVE OUT WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN, AND THAT THEY BELIEVE IN PUTTING ACTION TO THEIR WORDS. I ESPECIALLY APPRECIATE THE WAY THEY TREAT THEIR WIFES AND CHILDREN, AND THAT THE ELDERS WIVES ARE ALLOWED TO WALK ALONG SIDE THEIR HUSBANDS AS THEY MINISTER TO THE BODY OF CHRIST. PLUS THE DEACONS DO SO MUCH BEHIND THE SCENES TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE BODY AS WELL. MY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS GRACE WITH SUCH MEN OF GOD, BOTH IN LEADERSHIP AND OUR LAY BROTHERS AS WELL.
I thank Jesus constantly for giving me a strong Godly man. He isn’t afraid of anything or anyone. He challenges me to try new things, to think differently, and to find God amidst my anger, confusion, pain, apathy, and joy.
He leads our family. Whether it be disciplining our kiddos, their chores and allowance charts, nightly family devotions, playing with them, or taking time to hear me out, Milo is a great model for my kids and me of how Christ loves the church, and labors with us to find God’s best in our lives and family.
Gary is my home plate. He is my editor and my sounding board. He has completely opened himself up to taking in all of my stuff and walking me through making decisions and finding direction.
He is a servant leader. Quick to do the dishes or make the girls beds – just to show his love.
And, Gary has led me in the area of generosity. I have learned so much from his desire to meet people in their place of need – and listening to the Holy Spirit about giving to others, whether in time, money or energy.
Challenge: Tell them… Say Thank You… Acknowledge the places they have led well
We sometimes expect so much of the men in our lives and then we often don’t spend time pointing out the positive things they do. We all struggle with confidence, and most men feel inadequate in leading their family. Your support and acknowledgement will go so far to build their confidence. And as their confidence builds in each small area, they are more willing to step into another area where they feel insecure. Ladies – if you want your men to step further into leadership in your family, encourage them in all the little things. And then pray that God would continue to make them the man HE wants them to be. Remember, God’s plan for the leadership your husband displays might look slightly different than your plan. We need to hold our desires loosely and be willing to turn them over to God at all times.
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR HUSBAND IS PRAY FOR HIM!
