What is Art and Action?

Art and Action is a brand new summer ministry executed by Grace Chapel volunteers in conjunction with the City of Wilsonville.  It is an hour and a half at Memorial Park in Wilsonville, where volunteers set up families to engage in 45 minutes of art together and 45 minutes of activities together.

Who is invited to Art and Action?

Parents and children (ages 3-10) are invited to join us at the park for Art and Action.  The city will be mailing home their summertime brochure which will have a page in it representing Art and Action.  This mailer goes to every household in Wilsonville and gives parents an opportunity to sign their children up for the program.  Children may be pre-registered or can also drop in on Thursdays and sign up for the day.

What ages is Art and Action designed for?

Children ages 3 through 10 and their parents are invited to join us at the park.

Can I drop off my child at the park and return for pick up when Art and Action is over?

No.  Art and Action is designed to engage children with parents in creativity, quality time, and fun.  Parent(s) are required to join their children for the morning.

When is Art and Action?

Art and Action will be on 6 consecutive Thursdays beginning on July 23rd and ending on August 27th.

What time will it be?

Families are invited to the park at 10:15 am to get signed in, the first session will begin at 10:30 and families will rotate to the second session at 11:15.  We will wrap up around noon, but are encouraging families to bring a picnic lunch and get to know new friends in the park.

How do I register my child(ren)?

Starting May 18th visit the City of Wilsonville website www.ci.wilsonville.or.us and sign your children up online.

How much does Art and Action cost?

If you pre-register with the city you can sign your child up for all 6 weeks for $20.00.  With pre-registration your child(ren) will receive an art pack and an Art and Action t-shirt.

You can also come and register the morning of Art and Action and pay $4.00 per child to participate on that particular Thursday.

Are there scholarships available?

Yes, the city is handling all registrations and scholarships.  You will want to check in with them in order to fill out the proper paperwork.

If I go to Grace Chapel how can I get involved?

It’s easy….simply email us at kidventure@gracechapelonline.org and let us know of your desire to serve in Art and Action and we will get right back to you!  You can also fill out the form below. Will there be a church related component to Art and Action?

No.  We are simply offering our time and talent in order to serve in our community.  Our desire is that those we serve would see Jesus in us and be drawn to Him because of our love for one another.

“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:35

Will Grace Chapel be promoted in any way through this ministry?

Our heart in this is to step out in faith to serve in the community.  We feel the best way to do this is in more of a “nameless” way.  In other words we prefer to be His hands and feet in serving for the sake of serving with no other strategy but to help and care for our neighbors. Though Jordan Chesbrough has designed t-shirts for the volunteers to wear they do not reflect Grace Chapel at all.  They do however have Wilsonville Parks and Rec. listed on the logo.  Ultimately, we want to love on people where they are, as we do this the revelation of Jesus Christ in our lives can’t help but spill out onto those we have come to serve.

Is Grace Chapel paying for this?

When we approached the city to see if there might be a way for us to partner with them this summer we were clear about the fact that we do not have a budget for this pursuit.  Our plan which they received with overwhelming enthusiasm was to bring the volunteerism needed to gird up this existing program while letting the city finance it.  In addition we are making an effort to keep the cost for the city down by asking the body at Grace Chapel to donate needed art and action supplies.

Can my Middle School and/or High school student participate in serving this summer?

Students going into 7th grade and up may participate in serving in Art and Action.  Middle School students in particular will work with BJ Quimba in getting trained and signed up to serve.  If you have a student going into 6th grade they are welcome to serve alongside you but not on an independent basis.  High School students can check in with Angie Rettmann to sign up to serve.

Can I serve at Art and Action and bring my own children to attend?

Absolutely, though you will need to find that sweet balance of serving and participating with your children., the ages of your children will likely play into this decision.  Since serving in Art and Action will largely be about helping and caring for those in our community this is a wonderful time for you to mentor your own children as you participate from week to week.

Can I invite my neighbors or even my friends outside the Wilsonville area?

Please, please!  We would love to see you inviting your friends to join you in the park on Thursdays.  In fact this is a fantastic opportunity for you to get to know your neighbors better.  Simply let them know you will be attending Art and Action this summer and see if they want to jump in with you.

Why is Grace Chapel partnering with the City of Wilsonville to put on Art and Action?

Now that is a very good question!!  The Lord has been leading the leadership of Kidventure to pray through new opportunities for our families to be involved in experiencing Jesus by serving and helping the very people we live in community with.  Joining the city will be a beautiful partnership that will benefit the city as well as the church.  By bringing much needed volunteerism to the city we are alleviating their need to staff this particular program.  As we come together and “be the church” in the park we are bound to experience how we can be vessels of truth and hope to others.  This experience alone can move our faith to a whole new place, our desire is that our children too would experience what it is to shine for Jesus in the world they live in.

How do I sign up to serve?

Easy….just email Angie Rettmann at Kidventure@gracechapelonline.org.  You will get a phone call to confirm your commitment and answer any questions you may have.  You will also need to fill out a background check form and short application.
