As you may have heard, our Governor Kate Brown, and the Oregon Health Authority have released a list of requests specific to our state; among the precautions listed, the following was announced – “We are banning all public gatherings of more than 250 people for four weeks, effective immediately.”

After much prayer and consideration with the Grace Chapel Staff, Elders, and Portland Metro Pastors, we have decided to suspend all public gatherings/events. This includes Sunday services, Ardent youth gatherings, ministry events and any other gatherings that take place at the Grace Chapel offices.

Our priorities are to continue to be a church that experiences and expresses the essence of Jesus and that looks a little different right now. Our desire is to still be a church that lives out our purpose and presence together and in this community. We believe it is biblical to honor our governing authorities and wishes to protect the safety and welfare of everyone.

We want to do everything we can to protect you, the Grace Chapel family, and our decision is to also show love and compassion towards those who are the most vulnerable among us. Our team has been meeting and we are proactively planning to implement a strategy of shepherding, care, and connection throughout these next weeks.

Starting this Sunday, we will be providing a digital experience for children, youth, and adults through the use of video. It will be available and posted Sunday morning online and through our GC App.

A priority for us is to do all we can to be consistent and current with our communication. We will be releasing more information early next week on our plan for pastoral care, connection, and community.

This is an opportunity for us as a church to be people of peace, hope, and compassion. Although the world is full of fear, anxiety and uncertainty, I want to remind us and inspire us that some of the greatest times of Revival and Awakening happen at times like this. In a world that is dim with the darkness of circumstances, let us come together for one another, rise up, and shine for the world. May we be a church that is Unleashed in the power of the Holy Spirit to bring the brilliance of God’s glory at a time when the world needs it the most.

To reiterate, we feel this is the best way to protect you; especially those who are the most vulnerable among us. Please join us to continue to pray for the end of this virus, for the healing of those who are sick, and for a move of God in the midst of us.

Please feel free to pass along this information to those who call Grace Chapel home and to others who may benefit from it. This could be a time for you to share Grace Chapel resources with friends, family, and neighbors who may need messages that we will be providing, and together we can partner to spread a message of hope.

Finally, I want to leave you with a promise from God’s Word; “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:6-7

Love you guys, praying for all of us, and anticipating God’s supernatural work in our lives at this time.

Previous Information

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been reported in the greater Portland area. Grace Chapel is increasing precautions to ensure the health of our church family. Grace Chapel leaders and elders have consulted with local physicians to learn how to prevent the spread of the virus.

At this time, all of our gatherings/events are happening as previously scheduled. If we have to make a change to an event, we will communicate through email. We will continue to update our website as we monitor the situation.

If you or an immediate family member has shown signs of sickness, please do not attend a church gathering until those symptoms are completely gone.

Symptoms include but are not limited to:
• Fever
• Cough
• Respiratory Issues

Kidventure classes will be sanitizing all toys after each gathering, requiring all children to use hand sanitizer, and washing kids hands thoroughly after using the restroom. Kidventure kids and Kidventure Leaders with symptoms of sickness will not be allowed to enter the classroom. There will also be time spent in each class to demonstrate proper coughing etiquette. Many of these actions are already practiced on a regular basis, but we are increasing our attention and diligence.

Ardent will be requiring all youth to use hand sanitizer and washing hands thoroughly after using the restroom. Ardent Youth and Leaders with symptoms of sickness will not be allowed to enter the youth room or participate in youth events.

The increased precautions we are implementing during our church services include but are not limited to:

  • Our First Impressions Team will not be shaking hands as a way of greeting folks
  • Encouraging folks to use hand sanitizer, which is located throughout the building
  • We will not be passing the offering baskets but we will have buckets on the communion tables and the white box at the back of the worship area to place your offering in. Alternatively, you can mail your offering to our office or use PushPay to process an electronic donation.

While the extent and severity of the virus is still unknown, we feel these steps are helpful in preventing the spread of the virus. We have a high value for safety at Grace Chapel and appreciate your help in creating a safe space for children and adults.

Thank you,
Grace Chapel Leadership
